215 Festival Featured Reading: Ken Kalfus & Asali Solomon

Click here to invite friends on Facebook.

An unmissable reading pairing two major contemporary novelists who also happen to be Philadelphians: Kalfus, whose latest novella is Coup de Foudre, and has won every literary prize known to man, and Solomon, whose new novel, Disgruntled, was noted by the LA Times as being “masterful” and “a skillful guide who presents beauty and complex ideas.”

Presented by the Book Fight podcast and the Tire Fire Reading Series

Meet at Trophy Bikes, 712 N. 2nd St.

Click here to invite friends on Facebook.

Book Fight! is a fantastic podcast where two of the editors of BarrelHouse talk craft and work through writer’s rage, and Tire Fire is the super-popular monthly reading series of indie press, edgy authors at Tattoed Mom’s. And for the second time this 215 Festival, they’ll be leading a tour around Northern Liberties that is, by definition, totally false. (Well, mostly. Some.) Join tour guide Jaime Fountaine and storytellers Alejandro Morales, Matt Jakubowski and more as they walk through this most-contested neighborhood.

BIBLIODISCOTHEQUE DANCE PARTY

Official Patti Smith Reading Afterparty!

Feat. REAL LIFE LIBRARIANS DROPPING TOP SERIOUS DANCE JAMS OF EVERY GENRE

Click here to invite friends on Facebook.

If you are new to the 215 Festival, let us just tell you: This is a Whole Thing. We’re not sure when it started, but at some point in our 14-year history, somebody decided to throw a party where librarians were the DJs, and they’d invite other librarians, and their friends.

It turned out, this was the best party idea since the invention of dice. And also, holy moly those librarians really, really like to party.

Note: This occurs just after Patti Smith reads at The Free Library Central Branch and which is deeply, righteously sold out. (Sorry.)

We’re kicking off this year’s 215 Fest with two Philly authors who’ve each had massive breakout years: Blake with Mr. West, her much-discussed book of poetry inspired by Kanye West, and Liontas, whose debut novel Let Me Explain You was called “boisterous with moving bodies, food smells, noises” by the New York Times.
